Iran Institute for Women’s Studies and
Research
The Institute for Women’s Studies and
Research (IWSR) is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political
organization, established in 1986, and aims to promote the status of women in
the Islamic Republic of Iran and also the region through conducting research and
training activities. The Institute has Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC
and is located in
The institute also has centers: Farzaneh
Consultation center ,ICT center, is the place for women to learn the ICT, Coffe
net which is located here ,Specialized library is a place for research in the
women issue ,Charity center
Goals
- Promotion of knowledge on women’s issues
in two fields of culture and science at national, regional and international
levels;

Promotion of cultural and technical
knowledge among women researchers; -
Strengthening the exchange among
scientific and cultural bodies on women’s issues; -
Conducting scientific and religious
research on a series of women’s subject-matters as a basic step in
guaranteeing women’s role in policy-making; and -
Implementation of training and educational
workshops, seminars, sessions, exhibitions, and festivals at national and
international levels for exploring and resolving of women’s problems. -
Combating gender discrimination in family
and society; -
Combating gender-based violence,
especially domestic violence and supporting victims of violence; -
Correction of traditional patriarchal
attitudes towards woman and the girl child.
Fields of
Activity

Planning and carrying out of educational
workshops for empowerment of women and youth non-governmental organizations
(NGOs); we held some work shops here, both at the national level and
international level that are mentioned below:

Designing and production of training and
educational packages; -
Promotion of awareness among women and the
girl child on health-related issues; -
Education of children’s rights and
supporting their rights; -
Offering consultation services
(individually or in group) to families, women and
youth; - Conducting research on health-related
issues in provinces, especially with an emphasis on reproductive
health.
Major Activities
-
Developing the masters degree of “women
studies” for the Supreme Council of Universities, and following up the issue
until the adoption of the course for the universities (the course has been
adopted in 1999); -
Holding international workshops on women’s
studies with participation of women from the
region; -
Publication of specialized bilingual
quarterly of Zan-e Farzaneh; -
Holding educational seminars regarding
HIV/AIDS prevention for women; -
Conducting research on women mentioned in
the Holy Quran and publishing a book entitled “Quran’s attitude towards
presence of women in the history of Prophets”; -
Holding specialized meetings on “gender
analysis”; -
Holding a series of meetings to review
educational needs of young girls; -
Holding a training workshop on “reviewing
the violence against women and the ways of prevention and supporting victims
of violence”; -
Holding a series of training workshops on
management of human resources and fund-raising skills for senior managers and
directors of women’s non-governmental organizations.
Partnership
This Institute is ready to cooperate with
experts on social issues, governmental research institutes, and non-governmental
organizations as well as the United Nations agencies in the framework of
pursuing its organizational mission. The Institute benefits from its experienced
and trained staff, highly motivated experts and interested university
researchers that work on a full-/part-time basis. The Institute welcomes
effective cooperation on promotion of women’s status, especially in partnership,
within the framework of the Constitution of the Islamic
laws.
